Which Wolf Are You Feeding?

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in the past 12 months has been to feed the right wolf, even when it feels impossible.

If you haven’t yet heard it then here it is…

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

I’d say around this time last year I got into a really dark space. I got into a space of paranoia thinking no-one liked me. I was putting my self-worth on the success of my business. I stopped reaching out to people and isolated myself.

Every time I had a negative thought I would spiral into it and get completely pre-occupied. It had an effect on my whole body and often I’d just watch TV all day and sit in my sweatpants.

I kept feeding the negative wolf. I sought out anything that would confirm my negative thinking.

We are creatures of habit and by doing this I’d created terrible habits. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to shock our systems out of bad habits.

So I went back to everything I had learned about managing my own energy. You see, we have a finite amount of energy and we are either flowing into something positive or we are flowing into something negative. We can also choose to create more of that energy by doing more of the thing that gives us energy.

So I made a list of things that made me feel amazing and first of all I focused on doing those things to get me out of the slump. I reminded myself what it felt like to feel good.

It took daily work and mindfulness to start feeding the positive wolf…but I did it…even when it felt impossible. Now I focus 100% of my energy on what I want and feeling good because I know it’s the foundation of everything.

Self-compassion IS the foundation of success and it’s why, in my mission to help thousands of other women step into their power and have the success they crave, I developed an online course specifically designed to give you a crash course in self-love. Without this as your foundation, you will struggle to be successful in anything. You can read more about it by clicking here.
